Front-End Developer

Contract to start, with opportunity for full-time

New York or Remote (EST preferred)

Contract rate: $100–$150/hr | Full-time base salary: $105,000–$145,000 (base)

We are hiring a front-end developer to build pixel-perfect, production-ready web experiences for early-stage companies using Next.js and modern front-end frameworks.

At Little Plains, development is where design either holds up or falls apart. We do not consider a project done until what was designed in Figma actually exists in the browser, responsive, performant, and faithful to the intent.

You work directly with our design teams to implement experiences with a high level of visual and functional precision.

Why This Role Exists

Early-stage companies need sites and products that feel considered, move well, and perform under real conditions.

The best front-end developers working today are not just implementing handoffs. They are collaborating on design and architecture decisions in real time, using AI-assisted tools to move faster, and in many cases designing and building in the same motion. The ability to write clean, expressive front-end code, with a genuine understanding of both design intent and technical constraint, is still the difference between work that ships well and work that compromises on the way out the door.

About Little Plains

Little Plains is a modern brand and product studio. We work primarily with early-stage companies, often from pre-launch through Series A, at moments where clarity, speed, and conviction matter most. Our partners are founders and small senior teams building new products, categories, and narratives under real constraints.

We operate as an embedded creative partner rather than a traditional digital agency, building brand, product, and go-to-market work into cohesive systems that can scale as companies grow. Our work spans healthcare, biotech, SaaS, and consumer products.

What You Will Do

Day to day, you will:

  • Build responsive, pixel-accurate web experiences in Next.js and related frameworks
  • Translate Figma designs into production-ready code that preserves design intent
  • Collaborate closely with designers from concept through delivery
  • Work with motion and interaction designers to implement animations and dynamic behavior
  • Write clean, maintainable code with an eye for performance and cross-browser consistency
  • Use AI-first development tools and workflows as a core part of how you work, not as an afterthought

How We Work

Development starts early and runs in parallel with creative work. We use Figma as the source of truth, work in sprints, and hold a high bar for what ships. AI-first development is part of our culture. We expect developers who are genuinely curious about what these tools make possible and who are actively building faster and better because of them.

The Bar for Craft

This role requires precision, a strong eye for design, and the ability to make things work exactly as intended, across browsers, devices, and edge cases.

What We're Looking For

  • 3–5 years of front-end development experience, ideally with consumer tech, SaaS, or AI-native products
  • Strong proficiency in Next.js, React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Comfort working directly with designers to translate design systems into functional code
  • High attention to detail and ability to hold quality through delivery
  • Active use of AI-first development tools (Cursor, Copilot, v0, etc.) with genuine curiosity about what they make possible
  • Design engineering skills are a strong plus: the ability to work code-first, designing and building experiences in the same motion without a separate handoff
  • Familiarity with headless CMS setups (Sanity, Contentful) is a plus

Benefits (Full-Time)

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (50% employer-covered)
  • 15 days PTO (Year 1, increases by 2 days/year)
  • Parental leave: 12 weeks (birth parent), 6 weeks (non-birth parent) at full pay
  • Prenatal leave: 20 hours paid per year
  • Quarterly profit share tied to studio performance
  • Equity participation for long-term team members
  • $1,000/year craft and tools stipend
  • $200/month coworking stipend

What to Submit

  • Resume or LinkedIn profile
  • Portfolio or links to front-end development work
  • A short note on your approach to AI-first development and how it has changed how you work

If you want to build web experiences that are as good in the browser as they are in the file, let's talk.
