Design Engineer Intern

Summer 2026 Internship

New York or Remote (EST preferred)

Contract rate: $20/hr

About the Role

We're looking for a builder: someone who moves between design and code with ease, and who's already using tools like Claude, Cursor, and Framer to make things faster and stranger and better.

As a Design Engineer Intern at Little Plains, you'll work at the intersection of brand, product, and technology. You'll prototype ideas quickly, push interfaces beyond what static mocks can show, and help us explore what's possible when design and engineering work as one. If you're already building things just to see what happens, this role is for you.

About Little Plains

Little Plains is a modern brand and product studio. We work primarily with early-stage companies, often from pre-launch through Series A, at moments where clarity, speed, and conviction matter most. Our partners are founders and small senior teams building new products, categories, and narratives under real constraints.

We operate as an embedded creative partner rather than a traditional digital agency, building brand, product, and go-to-market work into cohesive systems that can scale as companies grow. Our work spans healthcare, biotech, SaaS, and consumer products.

What You Will Do

Day to day, you will:

  • Support the design and build of interactive brand experiences across web and product
  • Prototype in Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, or whatever gets the idea across fastest
  • Contribute to web components, landing pages, and interactive experiments
  • Participate in critiques, reviews, and internal workshops

Qualifications

Currently studying Design, CS, Interaction Design, or something adjacent. You use Figma. You've opened a code editor. You've played with Claude, Cursor, or Framer and wanted to push it further. A portfolio or GitHub that shows you actually make things. Basic understanding of HTML/CSS; React is a plus.

Curious, self-directed, and willing to ship something rough if it moves the idea forward.

  • Must have access to your own laptop for the duration of the internship
  • Must be available June 2026 through August 2026, 20 hours per week

What We're Looking For

Someone who builds things without being asked. You're curious about where design and code overlap, and you're already poking at AI tools to see what they can do. You don't need everything figured out. You just need to be paying attention and willing to try.

What You'll Gain

  • Exposure to real client work across brand, product, and web
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted design and prototyping workflows
  • You'll work directly with creative directors and senior designers on projects from concept through launch

What to Submit

  • Resume or LinkedIn profile
  • Portfolio showcasing relevant design engineering work
  • A short note on your design interests and why Little Plains
