Copywriter

Contract to start, with opportunity for full-time

New York or Remote (EST preferred)

Contract rate: $80–$125/hr | Full-time base salary: $85,000–$125,000 (base)

We are hiring a copywriter to develop voice, write brand copy, and build the language systems that define how early-stage companies communicate.

At Little Plains, copy is developed alongside design, strategy, and product — because how because how a brand communicates is inseparable from how it works.

You work across the language layer at every brand touchpoint, from voice development through shipped copy.

Why This Role Exists

Early-stage companies often have a clear product, and a need for messaging that conveys who they are and what they do. Copywriters are essential for bridging the gap between a company’s reason for being and how that message is relayed to the world.

Good copy is about clarity: making a complicated thing simple, a new category legible, and a founder's conviction transferable to strangers. All in an impactful and memorable way.

One thing that sets this work apart: we deliver voice systems in both human-facing formats and machine-readable ones. The language frameworks you build have to work for a person and inform an AI.

The companies we work with need an ownable voice and writing that resonates.

About Little Plains

Little Plains is a modern brand and product studio. We work primarily with early-stage companies, often from pre-launch through Series A, at moments where clarity, speed, and conviction matter most. Our partners are founders and small senior teams building new products, categories, and narratives under real constraints.

We operate as an embedded creative partner rather than a traditional digital agency, building brand, product, and go-to-market work into cohesive systems that can scale as companies grow. Our work spans healthcare, biotech, SaaS, and consumer products.

What You Will Do

Day to day, you will:

  • Write and develop copy across brand touchpoints: websites, product UI, campaigns, pitch materials, and social
  • Develop voice and tone guidelines that define how a brand sounds across contexts and audiences
  • Build copy systems and templates that others can use to stay on-brand without starting from scratch
  • Work from strategy briefs to produce polished, on-brand copy quickly and with conviction
  • Build prompt libraries and language frameworks that can be used by AI tools and internal teams
  • Collaborate with brand strategists to ensure copy reflects positioning
  • Collaborate with designers to make sure words and visuals earn each other
  • Apply editorial judgment to AI-assisted drafts, knowing when to use them as a starting point and when to start from scratch

How We Work

The brand narrative is developed alongside design, strategy, and product decisions, not handed off after the fact.

AI is part of the writing process here. It’s a tool for enhancing your craft, with your expertise at the helm.
